As if finding your best self physically and emotionally isn’t enough there are some amazing prizes up for grabs too:

In May of 2014 I was rear ended by a vehicle going over 35 MPH while I was at a complete stop.

The consequences of that accident have been life changing and have resulted in the hardest 18 months of my life.

Every day is a battle to just do daily tasks as I continue to fight post concussion syndrome but I refuse to let this unfortunate event destroy me.

I use the pain every day as motivation to make myself stronger mentally and physically and I want to help you fight through your battles too!

Growing up as an athlete I was never short of physical activity and it definitely showed through my extremely skinny build!

I struggled my entire life to put on weight until I developed hypothyroidism when I was 19-years-old.

My under active thyroid leads to easy weight gain, so instead of eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, I had to learn to eat healthier to be able to continue to compete as a Division-1 athlete in college.

In college I learned how to lift heavy and loved the results that came with it!

I was finally filling in my “bony back” which was always somewhat of a joke among my friends because of how far my shoulder blades stuck out my entire life.

As I started to make progress it gave me even more motivation to turn my biggest weakness into one of my biggest strengths.

While I did make significant progress in college it wasn’t until after college that I started making even faster gains after I became more educated in how to properly use supplements in addition to a healthy diet.

Despite not even being able to work out for months and weeks at a time in the past 18 months following the car accident, I’m very proud of how far I have been able to come while not being 100%!

I’ve made more progress while battling chronic pain than I did when I was 100% healthy!

If I can make it work then so can you!

My transformation physically and mentally is never ending and I am going to continue to try and find my best self each and every day!

I’m so excited to start this journey with everyone who wants to join me!

Healthy Protein MooLatte

If you love MooLattes from Dairy Queen you will love my healthy version using pretty much just 1st Phorm Chocolate Milkshake Protein.

This recipe is super simple and it’s great to make in the morning and take with you in the car if you are in a hurry!

All you do is blend together:

Iced Coffee (I just let my coffee chill in the fridge overnight)
A generous amount of ice
A litt bit of honey
1 Scoop of 1st Phorm Chocolate Milk Shake Phormula-1 Protein

I thought it was delicious!

And what makes it even better is that you will be saving a ton of calories and SUGAR!

A scoop of Phormula-1 Chocolate Milk Shake only has 95 calories and no sugar. A medium MooLatte from Dairy Queen has 690 Calories and 91 grams of sugar!

The World Health Organizations recommends 25 grams of sugar per day.

Fruit Loop Protein Yogurt Parfait

Just when I thought I couldn’t be more obsessed with 1st Phorm Loop D Fruit Protein I discovered the magic that happens when I mix it with plain Greek yogurt! Talk about delicious!

You’ve probably heard by now that plain Greek yogurt is a better option than flavored Greek yogurt when it comes to sugar intake. Personally, I can’t stand the taste of plain Greek yogurt without mixing it into a fruit smoothie, so this mixture makes me super excited! By mixing the sugar free protein powder with the plain Greek yogurt you can still get a sweet taste and not have to worry about any extra sugar intake, plus you get even more protein!

The mixture is great alone but if you really want to get fancy top it with some fruit and nuts or you could even turn it into a parfait with these simple steps:

1. Mix 1 cup plain Greek yogurt with 1 scoop 1st Phorm Loop D Fruit Protein (Serves 2)

2. In a tall glass line the bottom with banana slices or whatever you desire.

3. Top with the yogurt/protein mixture and then add some nuts or more fruit.

4. Just continue this process until you fill up your glass!

I used banana slices, black berries, almonds and unsweetened coconut.

Blueberry Lemon Protein Muffins

I’m obsessed with these amazing protein muffins. If you like lemon then you will love these! I think it’s the perfect combination of lemon and blueberries plus some added protein to keep you energized throughout the day.

Mix together dry ingredients and liquid ingredients separately and then combine them into one. Don’t add the blueberries into the mix just push them into the individual muffins as you put the batter into the muffin pan.

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 3 scoops 1st Phorm vanilla whey protein powder
  • 4 tsp coconut oil
  • 1⁄2 cup plain,
nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon stevia
  • 3 Tbs lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 Tbs lemon juice

Bake at 325 degrees F until a toothpick inserted into the middle of a muffin comes out clean (about 20-25 minutes).

You could use cupcake liners or grease the pan.

Very Berry Sorbet

Next time you are craving something sweet but don’t want to splurge on your diet try making this easy sorbet for a guilt free treat.

Blend together:

-2 cups of a combination of frozen blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. (I used part of a bag of this frozen mixture from Wal-Mart)
-Gradually add 5-6 tablespoons of coconut water until it becomes a sorbet consistency.
-Blend in 2 tablespoons of honey.

It’s that simple and it tastes just like the name says — very berry!

Enjoy and let me know if you like it!

Fruit and Protein Oatmeal Recipe

I keep hearing that I need to try putting protein in my oatmeal and I finally tried it and it turned out to be fabulous. I think the 1st Phorm Vanilla Ice Cream Protein gave the oatmeal almost a cake flavor and that was definitely a good thing.

How I did it:

1/2 Cup Oats

1 Scoop Of Vanilla Protein – I used 1st Phorm Vanilla Ice Cream Protein

*Keep adding hot water or heat in the microwave and mixing until it reaches the consistency you desire.

Topped with banana, blueberries and strawberries.

I like to add skim milk to my oatmeal for better consistency but that’s definitely optional.

Concussion Recovery Series: Good And Bad News

I’m at the 16 week mark since the day of the car accident and it’s been just about 4 weeks since I’ve been released to start working out. Every day I feel myself getting stronger physically and my brain is slowly getting better as well. Although I’m getting better I still have  a lot of recovery ahead of me and I’m dealing with daily headaches/migraines.

The most exciting news since the last update is that I got my “Thinking Speed” on the Impact test up to 23% from 13%. 23% is not great but it is certainly better than 13%. I’m also going to physical therapy 3 days a week for my neck, back and shoulders and 1 day a week for my concussion exertion therapy.

For all the updates and a look into what I’ve been doing for the past 3 weeks watch the video below!

As always please share this series with young athletes who need to be more educated about concussions! I wish I knew then what I know now about brain injuries, especially sports related ones.

Bad things happen to everybody. Don't let the bad things be what defines you. It's the way you respond to the bad things that are really important. Today was day 4 of working out again and it feels amazing. The good feelings that come from working out with all I've got over powers the pains that come with a concussion. It's going to take a week or so just to get used to lifting again but I know I'm going to come back even stronger than I was before. Every day I wake up with so much motivation to do better than I did yesterday. Sometimes it takes life punching you in the face to realize how much you really need something. I always knew I couldn't live without fitness but now I know how real that statement was to me.

Focus On Health – Not On Weight

10500301_706335369425756_5112565838748937473_n (1)

Forget about the number on a scale. YOU are worth more than a number! Just worry about being healthy and I don’t mean skinny by that, I mean fit!

It all starts on the inside, remember that what you put into your body affects how your body looks and feels.
Train dirty, eat clean, have fun!
